and very energetically on the united states senate. we'll worry about the house in the next step. what we have going for us is not only the newtown families but the majority of american people. 90% want common sense measures. in the end, the american people are on the right side of history. >> quickly, i would like to hear from you what you believe can change the game or the dynamic that would convince republican colleagues of yours to support this legislation. and i asked that because you've pointed out, you have the polling on your side. yesterday i saw in an interview with a newtown family member who said they met with one of the senators opposing this legislation. and they spoke respectfully to one another. in the end, they left again with the same opinions they went into the room. she wanted gun control legislation and the lawmaker she spoke with was still standing where he was and seeing there as a violation of someone's second amendment rights. what can you say that would persuade a republican who is not willing. >> what i say, if their constituents speak from them, if they hear fr
